Ibn Hibban

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Anas bin Nadr (may Allah be pleased with him) could not participate in the Battle of Badr. He said: I could not participate in the very first battle that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fought. By Allah! If Allah now gives me the opportunity to fight, Allah will make it clear what I will do. Then the occasion of the Battle of Uhud came, and the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) retreated, so Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him) started saying: Where is he, where is he? By Allah, in Whose hand is my life, I am sensing the fragrance of Paradise, which is on the other side of Uhud. The narrator states: He attacked, fought, and was martyred. Then Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: By Allah! O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! I do not have the strength to do what he did. His sister narrates: He was recognized by his fingertips. There were more than 80 wounds of sword strikes, arrows, and spears on his body. Then Allah the Exalted revealed this verse: “Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah. Some of them have fulfilled their vow, and some of them are still waiting. They have not changed in the least.” Hammad, the narrator, says: I have read this verse in my father’s Mushaf as: “Among them is one who has changed.”
