Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the recommendation for the leader to seek God’s help when fighting the enemy.
Hadith 4758
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، عَنْ صُهَيْبٍ ، قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا صَلَّى أَيَّامَ حُنَيْنٍ هَمَسَ شَيْئًا ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّكَ تَفْعَلُ شَيْئًا لَمْ تَكُنْ تَفْعَلُهُ ، قَالَ : أَقُولُ : " اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أُحَاوِلُ ، وَبِكَ أُصَاوِلُ ، وَبِكَ أُقَاتِلُ " .
Sayyiduna Suhaib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing prayer at the time of the Battle of Hunayn, he said something in a low voice. It was submitted to him, "You have done something which you had not done before." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "I was reciting this: 'O Allah, with Your help I confront (the enemy), I leap into battle, and with Your help I fight.'"
