Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the recommendation for the leader to fight after the sun passes its zenith if the morning opportunity is missed.
Hadith 4757
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، وَعَفَّانُ ، قَالا : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمِزِّنِيِّ ، عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ مُقَرِّنٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْقِتَالِ ، فَلَمْ يُقَاتِلْ أَوَّلَ النَّهَارِ أَخَّرَهُ إِلَى أَنْ تَزُولَ الشَّمْسُ ، وَتَهُبَّ الرِّيَاحُ ، وَيَنْزِلَ النَّصْرُ " .
Sayyiduna Nu’man bin Muqarrin (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). When he intended to fight in battle, he would not begin fighting in the early part of the day. He would delay it until the sun had declined, the winds had started to blow, and help had descended.
