Hadith 4749
Salim narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both): The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) towards Juzaymah. Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) invited them to Islam, but those people did not clearly say that they had accepted Islam; they kept saying, "We have changed our religion, we have changed our religion." So Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) took some of their people as captives and killed some of them. Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) assigned each of us a captive, until one day Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Each of you should kill his captive." When we presented ourselves before the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his attention was drawn to the conduct of Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands and said: "O Allah! I declare my innocence before You regarding what Khalid has done."
