Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – Clarifying that the battle slogan was by the Prophet’s command.
Hadith 4748
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الأَكْوَعِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ شِعَارُنَا لَيْلَةَ بَيَّتْنَا فِيهَا هَوَازِنَ مَعَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، أَمَّرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْنَا أَمِتْ ، أَمِتْ ، قَالَ : فَقَتَلْتُ بِيَدِي لَيْلَتَئِذٍ سَبْعَةَ أَهْلِ أَبْيَاتٍ " .
Iyas bin Salamah narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ رضي الله عنه): When we attacked the tribe of Hawazin at night, which was an attack under the leadership of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه, whom the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم had appointed as our leader, our battle cry was: "Kill! Kill!" The narrator states: That night, I killed members of seven households with my own hand.
