Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the report refuting the claim that battle slogans are not allowed for fighters in God’s cause.
Hadith 4747
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ ، عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الأَكْوَعِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " أَمَّرَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ، فَغَزَوْنَا نَاسًا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ، فَبَيَّتْنَاهُمْ ، وَقَتَلْنَاهُمْ ، وَكَانَ شِعَارُنَا أَمِتْ ، أَمِتْ " ، قَالَ سَلَمَةُ : فَقَتَلْتُ بِيَدِي تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ سَبْعَةَ أَهْلِ أَبْيَاتٍ .
Iyas bin Salamah bin Akwa narrates from his father: The Prophet (peace be upon him) appointed Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) as our leader. We fought against some polytheists. We attacked them at night and killed them. Our slogan (i.e., battle cry) was: "Kill, kill." Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: That night, I killed men from seven households with my own hand.
