Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the permissibility for a group to take turns riding a single camel during a campaign if unable to provide more.
Hadith 4733
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زِرٍّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ بَيْنَ كُلِّ ثَلاثَةٍ بَعِيرٌ ، وَكَانَ زَمِيلَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلِيٌّ ، وَأَبُو لُبَابَةَ ، فَإِذَا حَانَتْ عُقْبَةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالا : ارْكَبْ وَنَحْنُ نَمْشِي ، فَيَقُولُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا أَنْتُمَا بِأَقْوَى مِنِّي ، وَمَا أَنَا بِأَغْنَى عَنِ الأَجْرِ مِنْكُمَا " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Badr, one camel was being used by three men. Along with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) were Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him). When it was the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) turn to walk, both of these companions would request that he remain mounted while they walked. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Neither are you both stronger than me, nor am I in less need of reward than you both.
