Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On God’s favor upon the excused non-combatant by granting him the reward of the striving fighter.
Hadith 4731
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : لَمَّا رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ ، وَدَنَا مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ أَقْوَامًا مَا سِرْتُمْ مِنْ مَسِيرٍ ، وَلا قَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ وَادٍ ، إِلا كَانُوا مَعَكُمْ فِيهِ " ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَهُمْ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ؟ قَالَ : " نَعَمْ ، حَبَسَهُمُ الْعُذْرُ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from the expedition of Tabuk and approached Madinah, he said: "There are some people in Madinah who, whenever you traveled or crossed any valley, they were with you." The people asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Are those people in Madinah?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Yes, they are the ones who could not participate (in jihad) due to a valid excuse."
