Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the report refuting the claim that reaching fifteen years of age is not adulthood.
Hadith 4728
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الأَعْرَجُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " عُرِضْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا ابْنُ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً ، فَلَمْ يُجِزْنِي ، وَلَمْ يَرَنِي بَلَغْتُ ، ثُمَّ عُرِضْتُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَنَا ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً ، فَأَجَازَنِي " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: I was presented before the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) when I was fourteen years old, but the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not permit me (to participate in battle). In the opinion of the Prophet (peace be upon him), I had not yet reached maturity. Then, when I was presented before him at the age of fifteen, the Prophet (peace be upon him) gave me permission.
