Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the distinguishing mark between combatants and non-combatants among Muslims.
Hadith 4727
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ الدَّغُولِيُّ بِخَبَرٍ غَرِيبٍ مِنْ كِتَابِهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ بْنِ دِينَارٍ الْكَرْمَانِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ وَغَيْرُهُ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " عُرِضْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ، وَأَنَا ابْنُ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً وَلَمْ أَحْتَلِمْ ، فَلَمْ يَقْبَلْنِي ، ثُمَّ عُرِضْتُ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ وَأَنَا ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً فَقَبِلَنِي " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: On the occasion of the Battle of Uhud, I was presented before the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). I was fourteen years old and had not yet reached puberty, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not accept me. Then, on the occasion of the Battle of Khandaq, I was presented again; at that time I was fifteen years old, so the Prophet (peace be upon him) accepted me.
