Chapter on Setting Out and the Manner of Jihad – On the permissibility for boys to go on campaigns to serve the fighters.
Hadith 4725
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَوْلَى ثَقِيفٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الإِسْكَنْدَرَانِيُّ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ لأَبِي طَلْحَةَ : " الْتَمِسْ لِي غُلامًا مِنْ غِلْمَانِكُمْ يَخْدُمُنِي حَتَّى آتِي خَيْبَرَ " ، فَخَرَجَ بِي أَبُو طَلْحَةَ مُرْدِفِي وَأَنَا غُلامٌ رَاهَقْتُ الْحُلُمَ ، فَكُنْتُ أَخْدُمُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِذَا نَزَلَ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him): "Bring me one of your boys who can serve me until I reach Khaybar." (Sayyiduna Anas [may Allah be pleased with him] narrates:) So Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) mounted me behind him and took me along. At that time, I was a boy and close to reaching puberty. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) camped there, I continued to serve him.
