Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Before setting out for the Battle of Badr, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) consulted the people, so Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) expressed his opinion to him. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sought counsel, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) presented his opinion. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) kept consulting until the Ansar said: By Allah! The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) only wants to know our opinion. Then one of the Ansar said: I have seen you consulting, and people are giving you their opinions. We will not say as the Children of Israel said: “You and your Lord go and fight.” By the One Who has sent you with the truth, if you (peace and blessings be upon him) go as far as Bark al-Ghamad to fight them, we will surely remain with you.
