Chapter on Animal Collars and Bells – On the reason why the Prophet, peace be upon him, ordered the removal of bells.
Hadith 4700
أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْهَيْثَمِ الْبَلَدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَكَمِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِِسْحَاقُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ ، عن يَحْيَى بْنٍ أَيُوبِ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ ، أَنَّ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا الْجَرَّاحِ مَوْلَى أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ ، حَدَّثَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِِنَّ الْعِيرَ الَّتِي فِيهَا الْجَرَسُ لا تَصْحَبُهَا الْمَلائِكَةُ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : يُشْبِهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ أَرَادَ بِهَذَا الْعِيرَ الَّتِي يَكُونُ فِيهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَجْلِ نُزُولِ الْوَحْيِ عَلَيْهِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The angels do not accompany the camel that has a bell around its neck." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) It is possible that by this, the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) meant the camel in the caravan in which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) himself was present, because revelation used to descend upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
