Chapter on Animal Collars and Bells – On the prohibition of putting string collars on the necks of animals.
Hadith 4698
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِِدْرِيسَ الأَنْصَارِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَشِيرٍ الأَنْصَارِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِهِ ، قَالَ : فَأَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَسُولا ، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ : فَحَسِبْتُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : وَالنَّاسُ فِي مَبِيتِهِمْ : " لا تَبْقَيَنَّ فِي رَقَبَةِ بَعِيرٍ قِلادَةٌ مِنْ وَتَرٍ إِِلا قُطِعَتْ " . قَالَ مَالِكٌ : أَرَى ذَلِكَ مِنَ الْعَيْنِ .
Sayyiduna Abu Bashir Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He was with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during a journey. The narrator states: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sent a messenger. The narrator named Abdullah bin Abu Bakr stated this; I think he also mentioned that the people were resting at that time (when the Prophet sent this message): "Let not a single string of thread remain hanging on the neck of any camel. It should be cut off." Imam Malik states: I think people used to tie it to protect from the evil eye.
