Chapter on Racing - On the report denying the permissibility of racing except in two known things
Hadith 4689
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْحِزَامِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَابِقَ بَيْنَ الْخَيْلِ ، وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَهُمَا سَبْقًا ، وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَهُمَا مُحَلِّلا ، وَقَالَ : " لا سَبْقَ إِِلا فِي حَافِرٍ أَوْ نَصْلٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) held a race between horses. He had them race and set a finish line for the race. The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The competition will only be between those horses that have hooves and are thoroughbred."
