Chapter on the Virtue of Martyrdom - On clarifying that the martyr may wish to return more times than previously mentioned
Hadith 4662
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِِلَى الدُّنْيَا وَلَهُ مَا عَلَى الأَرْضِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِِلا الشَّهِيدُ ، فَإِِنَّهُ يَتَمَنَّى أَنْ يَرْجِعَ إِِلَى الدُّنْيَا فَيُقْتَلَ عَشْرَ مَرَّاتٍ لِمَا يَرَى مِنَ الْكَرَامَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No person who enters Paradise will wish to return to the world, even if he were to be given everything on the face of the earth; except for the martyr, for he will wish to return to the world and be killed ten times because of the honor he sees (in martyrdom)."
