Chapter on the Virtue of Jihad - On clarifying that the reward for the one who stands guard is for the deeds he did in life
Hadith 4626
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ شُرَحْبِيلَ بْنِ السِّمْطِ ، أَنَّهُ مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ سَلْمَانُ وَهُوَ مُرَابِطٌ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا أُجْرِيَ عَلَيْهِ عَمَلُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُ ، وَأُومِنَ الْفَتَّانَ ، وَيَجْرِي عَلَيْهِ رِزْقُهُ " .
Sharhabeel bin Simt narrates: Once, Sayyiduna Salman al-Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by him while he was performing guard duty. Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever dies while standing guard, his deeds continue as before, and he is protected from the trials (of the grave), and he is provided sustenance (in the Hereafter)."
