Chapter on the Virtue of Jihad - On clarifying that the reward for the one who stands guard continues after death, not his deeds
Hadith 4625
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا النُّعْمَانُ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ شُرَحْبِيلَ بْنِ السِّمْطِ ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، أُومِنَ عَذَابَ الْقَبْرِ ، وَنَمَا لَهُ أَجْرُهُ إِِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : النُّعْمَانُ هَذَا هُوَ : النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْغَسَّانِيُّ مِنْ أَهْلِ دِمَشْقَ .
Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: He heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever dies while standing guard in the way of Allah is protected from the punishment of the grave, and his reward continues to increase until the Day of Resurrection." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The narrator named Nu'man is Nu'man bin Mundhir Ghassani, and he belongs to the people of Damascus.
