Chapter on the Virtue of Jihad - On clarifying that this virtue applies to the fighter even if he dies on the way
Hadith 4622
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَوْنٍ وَكَانَ يَخْتِمُ الْقُرْآنَ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَثَلُ الْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، كَمَثَلِ الْقَانِتِ الصَّائِمِ الَّذِي لا يَفْتُرُ صَلاةً وَلا صِيَامًا ، حَتَّى يَرْجِعَهُ اللَّهُ إِِلَى أَهْلِهِ بِمَا يَرْجِعُهُ إِِلَيْهِمْ مِنْ غَنِيمَةٍ أَوْ أَجْرٍ ، أَوْ يَتَوَفَّاهُ فَيُدْخِلُهُ الْجَنَّةَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The example of one who strives in the path of Allah is like that of a person who performs voluntary prayers and fasts continuously, without any break in his prayer and fasting, until the warrior returns, bringing with him spoils and reward, or Allah causes him to die and admits him into Paradise."
