Chapter on the Virtue of Jihad - On the Prophet likening the fighter to one who fasts and prays continuously
Hadith 4621
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانَ وَكَانَ قَدْ صَامَ النَّهَارَ وَقَامَ اللَّيْلِ ثَمَانِينَ سَنَةً غَازِيًا وَمُرَابِطًا ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَثَلُ الْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي لا يَفْتُرُ مِنْ صِيَامٍ وَصَلاةٍ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The example of the one who strives in the path of Allah is like that of a fasting and praying person who does not leave off any (supererogatory) fast nor abandons (supererogatory) prayer until that person returns (from jihad)."
