Abu Ajfa bin Salma reports: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed us in a sermon and said: Beware, do not exaggerate in the dowries of women, because if this were a means of honor in this world or a cause of piety in the sight of Allah, then the person most deserving of it among you would have been Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace be upon him). But the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not fix the dowry of any of his wives or daughters at more than twelve uqiyah. The second thing is: When someone is killed during battle, you say he is a martyr. Do not say this; rather, say what the Prophet (peace be upon him) said. (The narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words:) Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Whoever is killed in the way of Allah (the narrator is unsure, perhaps these are the words), whoever dies in the way of Allah will be in Paradise.
