Chapter on the Virtue of Jihad - On granting a rank in Paradise to one who reaches an arrow in Allah's cause
Hadith 4615
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ بِنَسَا ، حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زَنْجُوَيْهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ مَعْدَانَ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ السُّلَمِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَاصَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الطَّائِفَ ، فَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " مَنْ بَلَغَ بِسَهْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، فَهُوَ لَهُ دَرَجَةٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ " . قَالَ : فَبَلَغَتْ يَوْمَئِذٍ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ سَهْمًا . قَالَ الشَّيْخُ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ : أَبُو نَجِيحٍ اسْمُهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَبَسَةَ السُّلَمِيُّ .
Sayyiduna Abu Najeeh Salmi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were besieging Ta’if along with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Whoever shoots an arrow in the way of Allah (i.e., that reaches the enemy), this act will be a cause for one rank in Paradise for him.” The narrator says: That day I shot sixteen arrows (i.e., that reached the enemy). Sheikh Abu Hatim states: The name of Sayyiduna Abu Yah (may Allah be pleased with him) is Amr bin Abasah Salmi.
