Chapter on the Virtue of Jihad - On the guarantee of Paradise for the migrant and fighter who die while intending it
Hadith 4593
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَقِيلٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ سَبْرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي فَاكِهٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ قَعَدَ لابْنِ آدَمَ بِطَرِيقِ الإِِسْلامِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : تَسْلَمُ وَتَذَرُ دِينَكَ وَدِينَ آبَائِكَ ، فَعَصَاهُ فَأَسْلَمَ فَغَفَرَ لَهُ ، فَقَعَدَ لَهُ بِطَرِيقِ الْهِجْرَةِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : تُهَاجِرُ وَتَذَرُ أَرْضَكَ وَسَمَاءَكَ ، فَعَصَاهُ فَهَاجَرَ ، فَقَعَدَ لَهُ بِطَرِيقِ الْجِهَادِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : تُجَاهِدُ وَهُوَ جَهْدُ النَّفْسِ ، وَالْمَالِ ، فَتُقَاتِلُ فَتَقْتُلُ ، فَتُنْكَحُ الْمَرْأَةُ ، وَيُقْسَمُ الْمَالُ ، فَعَصَاهُ فَجَاهِدَ " ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَمَنْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ فَمَاتَ ، كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ ، أَوْ قُتِلَ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ ، وَإِِنْ غَرِقَ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةَ ، أَوْ وَقَصَتْهُ دَابَّةٌ كَانَ حَقًّا عَلَى اللَّهِ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهُ الْجَنَّةُ " .
Sayyiduna Sabrah bin Abu Fakihah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Indeed, Satan sits on the path of Islam to mislead a person. He asks him: 'Are you about to accept Islam and abandon your religion and the religion of your forefathers?' If the person does not obey him and accepts Islam, he is forgiven. Then Satan sits on the path of migration (hijrah) to entrap him. Satan says to him: 'Are you about to migrate? Are you about to leave your land and your sky?' If that person disobeys Satan and migrates, then Satan sits on the path of jihad to mislead him. Satan says to him: 'Are you about to participate in jihad? This involves both life and wealth. If you take part in the battle, you will be killed, your wife will marry someone else, and your wealth will be distributed.' If the person does not obey him and participates in jihad, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever does this and then passes away, it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him into Paradise. And whoever is killed (during jihad), it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him into Paradise. And if the person drowns and dies, it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him into Paradise. And if the person dies by falling from his mount, it is incumbent upon Allah to admit him into Paradise."
