Chapter on Obedience to Leaders - On clarifying that rulers are owed rights only if they care for their people
Hadith 4584
أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الأَزْدِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِِنَّ لِي عَلَى قُرَيْشٍ حَقًّا ، وَإِِنَّ لِقُرَيْشٍ عَلَيْكُمْ حَقًّا مَا حَكَمُوا فَعَدَلُوا ، وَائْتُمِنُوا فَأَدُّوا ، وَاسْتُرْحِمُوا فَرَحِمُوا " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "I have a right over the Quraysh and the Quraysh have a right over you people as long as they judge with justice when making decisions, fulfill the trust when entrusted with it, and show mercy when mercy is sought from them."
