Chapter on Obedience to Leaders - On affirming Allah's support for the community and Satan's support for those who separate
Hadith 4577
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ زُهَيْرٍ بِتُسْتَرَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَسْرُوقِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ الْحِمَّانِيُّ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلاقَةَ ، عَنْ عَرْفَجَةَ بْنِ شُرَيْحٍ الأَشْجَعِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي هَنَاتٌ وَهَنَاتٌ ، فَمَنْ رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَارَقَ الْجَمَاعَةِ ، أَوْ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُفَرِّقَ بَيْنَ أُمَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَمْرُهُمْ جَمِيعٌ ، فَاقْتُلُوهُ كَائِنًا مَنْ كَانَ ، فَإِِنَّ يَدَ اللَّهِ مَعَ الْجَمَاعَةِ ، وَإِِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ مَنْ فَارَقَ الْجَمَاعَةَ يَرْتَكِضُ " .
Sayyiduna ‘Urfaajah bin Shuraih Ashja‘i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: “Soon after me there will be various kinds of tribulations, so if you see a person who separates himself from the (Muslim) community or wants to create division among the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while they are united, then kill him wherever he may be. Indeed, Allah’s hand is over the community, and indeed, Satan is with the one who separates himself from the (Muslim) community.”
