Chapter on Obedience to Leaders - On the obligation of sincere advice in religion for oneself and all Muslims
Hadith 4574
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الأَنْصَارِيِّ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ السَّمَّانِ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ مِنْ بَنِي لَيْثٍ ، عَنْ تَمِيمٍ الدَّارِيِّ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " الدِّينُ النَّصِيحَةُ " ، ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، قَالُوا : لِمَنْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " لِلَّهِ ، وَلِكِتَابِهِ ، وَلِرَسُولِهِ ، وَلأَئِمَّةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ أَوْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَعَامَّتِهِمْ " .
Sayyiduna Tamim Dari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "The religion is sincerity (good counsel)." He said this three times. The people asked, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! For whom?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "For Allah, for His Book, for His Messenger, for the leaders of the Muslims (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps these are the words) for the leaders of the believers, and for their common people (to be sincere to them)."
Hadith 4575
أَخْبَرَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ بَنَانَ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ بَنَانَ بِوَاسِطَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ الْبَزَّازُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ لَقِيتُ سُهَيْلا ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : أَرَأَيْتَ حَدِيثًا كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ عَمْرٌو ، عَنِ الْقَعْقَاعِ ، عَنْ أَبِيكِ ، سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْ أَبِيكِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُهُ مِنَ الَّذِي سَمِعَهُ مِنْهُ أَبِي صِدِّيقٍ لأَبِي كَانَ يَأْتِي مِنَ الشَّامِ ، يُقَالُ لَهُ : عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ اللَّيْثِيُّ ، سَمِعْتُهُ أَخْبَرَ ذَلِكَ ، عَنْ تَمِيمٍ الدَّارِيِّ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَلا إِِنَّ الدِّينَ النَّصِيحَةُ ، أَلا إِِنَّ الدِّينَ النَّصِيحَةُ ، أَلا إِِنَّ الدِّينَ النَّصِيحَةُ " . قَالُوا : لِمَنْ يَا رَسُولَ ؟ قَالَ : " لِلَّهِ ، وَلِكِتَابِهِ ، وَلِرَسُولِهِ ، وَلأَئِمَّةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَعَامَّتِهِمْ " .
Sayyiduna Tamim Dari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Be aware! Religion is sincerity. Be aware! Indeed, religion is sincerity. Be aware! Indeed, religion is sincerity." The people asked: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! For whom?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "For Allah, His Book, His Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims, and their common people (to be sincere to them)."
