Chapter on Obedience to Leaders - On the Prophet's fear for his nation straying by following misguided leaders
Hadith 4570
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ يُوسُفَ أَبُو حَمْزَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ زَنْجُوَيْهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ أَبِي قِلابَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي الأَشْعَثِ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِِنِّي لا أَخَافُ عَلَى أُمَّتِي إِِلا الأَئِمَّةَ الْمُضِلِّينَ ، وَإِِذَا وُضِعَ السَّيْفُ فِي أُمَّتِي لَمْ يُرْفَعْ عَنْهُمْ إِِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I only fear for my Ummah from misguided rulers. When the sword is placed among my Ummah (that is, when fighting begins among them), it will not be lifted from them until the Day of Resurrection (that is, their mutual fighting will not end)."
