Chapter on Obedience to Leaders - On the first of two exceptions to the general term previously mentioned
Hadith 4561
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانَ الطَّائِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا إِِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ ، يَقُولُ لَنَا : " فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When we used to pledge allegiance to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for obedience and submission, he (peace be upon him) would say to us: "As much as you are able (you will act upon it accordingly)."
