Chapter on Allegiance to Leaders and What Is Recommended for Them - On the conditions upon which women pledged allegiance to the Prophet
Hadith 4554
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : جَاءَتْ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ " تَبَايَعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَخَذَ عَلَيْهَا أَنْ لا يَسْرِقْنَ وَلا يَزْنِينَ سورة الممتحنة آية 12 " . قَالَتْ : فَوَضَعَتْ يَدَهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهَا حَيَاءً ، فَأَعْجَبَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا رَأَى مِنْهَا ، فَقَالَتْ لَهَا عَائِشَةُ : قَرِّي أَيَّتُهَا الْمَرْأَةُ ، فَوَاللَّهِ مَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِِلا عَلَى هَذَا ، فَبَايَعَهَا بِالآيَةِ .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Lady Fatimah bint Utbah bin Rabi’ah came to pledge allegiance, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took from her the pledge that she would not steal and would not commit adultery. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: That woman, out of modesty, placed her hand on her head. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was surprised at her action, so Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said to the woman: O woman, acknowledge this matter! By Allah, we women pledge allegiance to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on this very matter. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took the pledge from that woman according to the command of the verse.
