Chapter on Caliphate and Leadership - On the recommendation for the leader to grant his people what they hope for as blessings from him
Hadith 4534
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ يُوسُفَ بِدِمَشْقَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِيِّ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ ، قَالَ : عَقَلْتُ مَجَّةً مَجَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي وَجْهِي مِنْ دَلْوٍ مُعَلَّقَةٍ فِي دَارِنَا ، قَالَ مَحْمُودٌ : فَحَدَّثَنِي عِتْبَانُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِِنَّ بَصَرِي قَدْ سَاءَ ، وَإِِنَّ الأَمْطَارَ إِِذَا اشْتَدَّتْ سَالَ الْوَادِي فَحَالَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ الصَّلاةِ فِي مَسْجِدِ قَوْمِي ، فَلَوْ صَلَّيْتُ فِي مَنْزِلِي مَكَانًا أَتَّخِذُهُ مُصَلًّى ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نَعَمْ " . قَالَ : فَغَدَا عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَا ، فَأَذِنْتُ لَهُمَا ، قَالَ : فَمَا جَلَسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى قَالَ : " أَيْنَ تُحِبُّ أَنْ أُصَلِّيَ فِي مَنْزِلِكَ ؟ " فَأَشَرْتُ لَهُ إِِلَى نَاحِيَةٍ ، فَتَقَدَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصَفَفْنَا خَلْفَهُ ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَحَبَسْنَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى خَزِيرَةٍ صَنَعْنَاهَا لَهُ .
Sayyiduna Mahmood bin Rabee’ (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I remember this incident, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rinsed his mouth and spat water on my face from the bucket that was hanging in our house. Sayyiduna Mahmood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna ‘Itbaan bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) told this incident, I submitted: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! My eyesight has become weak, and when there is heavy rainfall, water accumulates in the low-lying area, which becomes a barrier between me and the mosque of my neighborhood. So if you could perform prayer at any place in my house, I would make that place my prayer area. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Alright. The narrator says: The next day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to my house, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was also with him. Both of them sought permission to enter, and I presented permission to both of them. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not sit down; first, he inquired: Where would you like me to perform prayer in your house? I pointed to a corner of the house. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) moved forward, and we formed a row behind him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two rak‘ahs, then we detained the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to eat khazeerah, which we had prepared for him.
