Chapter on Caliphate and Leadership - On the recommendation for leaders to show kindness to those expected to embrace faith
Hadith 4501
أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِِنَّ قُرَيْشًا حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ ، فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَتَأَلَّفَهُمْ " . ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ : " أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ غَيْرِكُمْ ؟ " قَالُوا : ابْنُ أُخْتٍ لَنَا . قَالَ : " ابْنُ أُخْتِ الْقَوْمِ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ " .
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Quraysh are close to the time of ignorance, so I intended to make them feel at ease." Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Is there anyone among you besides yourselves?" The people replied: "We have a nephew." So the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A people's nephew is considered part of them."
