Hadith 4498
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الأَحْوَلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : " قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَنَا تَمْرًا ، فَأَصَابَنِي مِنْهَا خَمْسُ أَوْ أَرْبَعُ تَمَرَاتٍ " . قَالَ : فَرَأَيْتُ الْحَشَفَةَ هِيَ أَشَدُّ لِضِرْسِي . قَالَ : قَالَ : فَقَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ : " إِِنَّ أَبْخَلَ النَّاسِ ، مَنْ بَخِلَ بِالسَّلامِ ، وَأَعْجَزَ النَّاسِ ، مَنْ عَجَزَ عَنِ الدُّعَاءِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed dates among us, so I had five or perhaps six dates from them. Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One of those dates was extremely hard for my molar. The narrator states: Upon this, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The most miserly among people is the one who is stingy in greeting, and the most incapable among people is the one who cannot even make supplication.
