Chapter on Caliphate and Leadership – Description of just leaders on the Day of Judgment
Hadith 4484
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَوْسٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْمُقْسِطُونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَى مَنَابِرٍ مِنْ نُورٍ عَنْ يَمِينِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَكِلْتَا يَدَيْهِ يَمِينٌ ، الْمُقْسِطُونَ عَلَى أَهْلِيهِمْ وَأَوْلادَهُمْ ، وَمَا وَلُّوا " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : هَذَا الْخَبَرُ مِنْ أَلْفَاظِ التَّعَارُفِ ، أُطْلِقَ لَفْظُهُ عَلَى حَسَبِ مَا يَتَعَارَفُهُ النَّاسُ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُمْ ، لا عَلَى الْحَقِيقَةِ ، لِعَدَمِ وُقُوفِهِمْ عَلَى الْمُرَادِ مِنْهُ إِِلا بِهَذَا الْخِطَابِ الْمَذْكُورِ ، وَالْمُقْسِطُ : الْعَدْلُ ، وَالْقَاسِطُ : الْعَادِلُ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Those who are just in this world will be on pulpits of light at the right side of the Most Merciful on the Day of Resurrection, and both sides of Him are right. They are those who act justly with their wives, their children, and in all matters over which they are appointed as guardians.” (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) The words of this narration are according to the common usage of people, and the words used here are those which people use in their common language; its real meaning is not intended, because its reality cannot be comprehended. That comprehension can only be achieved through the words mentioned in this narration. The word “muqsit” means one who acts justly, and the word “qasit” means one who deviates from the right path.
