Chapter on Apostasy – Another narration confirming what was mentioned
Hadith 4476
أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَنَدِيُّ بِمَكَّةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زِيَادٍ اللَّحْجِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو قُرَّةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي إِِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ تَرَكَ دِينَهُ أَوْ قَالَ : رَجَعَ عَنْ دِينِهِ فَاقْتُلُوهُ ، وَلا تُعَذِّبُوا بِعَذَابِ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا يَعْنِي بِالنَّارِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever abandons his religion (i.e., the religion of Islam) (the narrator is in doubt, perhaps these are the words) whoever turns back from his religion (i.e., the religion of Islam), then kill him, and do not inflict upon anyone the punishment which Allah, the Exalted, will inflict (the narrator says:) that is, do not punish with fire."
