Chapter on Punishment for Theft – The value of a dinar during the Prophet’s time
Hadith 4463
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ، قَالَ : عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " قَطَعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مِجَنٍّ قِيمَتُهُ ثَلاثَةُ دَرَاهِمَ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a hand cut off for the theft of a shield; the value of that shield was three dirhams.
