Chapter on Punishment for Theft – Denial of faith for the thief and wine drinker at the time of their crimes
Hadith 4454
أَخْبَرَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْقَطَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَكِيمُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا يَسْرِقُ السَّارِقُ حِينَ يَسْرِقُ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَلا يَشْرَبُ الْخَمْرَ حِينَ يَشْرَبُهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ ، وَلَكِنْ أَبْوَابُ التَّوْبَةِ مَعْرُوضَةٌ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "A thief is not a believer while he is stealing, a person who drinks alcohol is not a believer while he is drinking alcohol, however, the opportunity for repentance remains."
