Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate: A Bedouin came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I beseech you by Allah to judge between us according to Allah’s Book. The opposing party, who was more intelligent, said: Yes, judge between us according to Allah’s Book, but allow me (so that I may state the matter). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Speak. He said: My son was working for this man, and he committed adultery with his wife. I was informed that my son would be stoned, so I gave one hundred sheep and a slave girl as ransom. Then I asked the people of knowledge, and they told me that my son should be given one hundred lashes and exiled for one year, and his wife should be stoned. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I will judge between you according to Allah’s Book. The slave girl and the sheep will be returned to you. Your son will be given one hundred lashes and exiled for one year. O Anas! Go to this man’s wife; if she confesses, then stone her. The narrator says: The next day, that companion went to the woman, and she confessed, so according to the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this woman, she was stoned.
