Chapter on Adultery – The term “adultery” applied to the heart when desiring the forbidden
Hadith 4421
أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي السَّرِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلُّ بَنِي آدَمَ لَهُ نَصِيبٌ مِنَ الزِّنَى أَدْرَكَهُ ذَلِكَ لا مَحَالَةَ : فَالْعَيْنُ زِنَاهَا النَّظَرُ ، وَاللِّسَانُ زِنَاهُ النُّطْقُ ، وَالْقَلْبُ زِنَاهُ التَّمَنِّي ، وَالْفَرْجُ يُصَدِّقُ وَيُكَذِّبُ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every human being has his share of adultery, which he will inevitably reach. The adultery of the eye is looking, the adultery of the tongue is speaking, the adultery of the heart is desiring, and the private part either confirms or denies it."
