Prohibition of pre-Islamic forms of oath-taking
Hadith 4369
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ الْحَلَبِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ بْنِ التَّوْأَمِ ، أَنَّ قَيْسَ بْنَ عَاصِمٍ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْحِلْفِ فَقَالَ : " لا حِلْفَ فِي الإِِسْلامِ " .
Shu’bah bin Taw’am narrates: Sayyiduna Qais bin ‘Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about making an ally (according to the custom of the pre-Islamic era): so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is no making of an ally (in this manner) in Islam.
