Chapter on Kindness to Slaves
Hadith 4312
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ ، أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " عُرِضَ عَلَيَّ أَوَّلُ ثَلاثَةٍ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ : الشَّهِيدُ ، وَعَبْدٌ مَمْلُوكٌ أَحْسَنَ عِبَادَةَ رَبِّهِ وَنَصَحَ لِسَيِّدِهِ ، وَعَفِيفٌ مُتَعَفِّفٌ ذُو عِيَالٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Three persons were presented before me who will enter Paradise first. One of them will be a martyr, the second will be a slave who worships his Lord well and is sincere to his master, and the third will be a chaste person who has a family and children and refrains from begging.
Hadith 4313
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الأَشَجِ ، عَنْ عَجْلانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لِلْمَمْلُوكِ طَعَامُهُ وَكِسْوَتُهُ ، وَلا يُكَلَّفُ إِِلا مَا يُطِيقُ ، فَإِِنْ كَلَّفْتُمُوهُمْ فَأَعِينُوهُمْ ، وَلا تُعَذِّبُوا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ خَلْقًا أَمْثَالَكُمْ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this statement of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A slave will be given food and clothing, and he will only be made responsible for what he is capable of. If you assign him a task, then you should also help him, and do not torment the servants of Allah, for they are also creatures like you."
