Chapter on Waiting Period – Description of the waiting period for an Umm Walad if her master dies
Hadith 4300
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مَطَرٍ ، عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ ، عَنْ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ ذُؤَيْبٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ ، قَالَ : لا تُلْبِسُوا عَلَيْنَا سُنَّةَ نَبِيِّنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " عِدَّةُ أُمِّ الْوَلَدِ عِدَّةُ الْمُتَوَفَّى عَنْهَا زَوْجُهَا " . قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : سَمِعَ هَذَا الْخَبَرَ ابْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ وَمَطَرٌ الْوَرَّاقُ ، عَنْ رَجَاءِ بْنِ حَيْوَةَ ، فَمَرَّةً يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ هَذَا ، وَأُخْرَى عَنْ ذَلِكَ .
Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Do not make the Sunnah of our Prophet (peace be upon him) doubtful for us. The waiting period (‘iddah) of an Umm Walad will be the same as the waiting period of a widow. (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says:) Ibn Abu ‘Uroobah heard this narration from Qatadah, and Matar Waraq heard this narration from Raja’ bin Haywah, so once he transmitted it from this one and once from that one.
