Chapter on Li‘an – Clarification that the child after mutual cursing is attributed to the mother, not the husband
Hadith 4288
أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سِنَانَ الطَّائِيُّ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ " رَجُلا لاعَنَ امْرَأَتَهُ فِي زَمَانِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَانْتَفَى مِنْ وَلَدِهَا ، فَفَرَّقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَهُمَا ، وَأَلْحَقَ الْوَلَدَ بِالْمَرْأَةِ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), a man invoked li'an with his wife and denied the lineage of the child (born to that woman). So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) separated the two (husband and wife) and attributed the child to his mother.
