Chapter: Maintenance – God records reward for a woman who spends on her husband’s children from her wealth
Hadith 4246
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو يَعْلَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنِ ابْنِ إِِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّهَا أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قُلْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : هَلْ لِي مِنْ أَجْرٍ فِي بَنِي أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ؟ فَإِِنِّي أُنْفِقُ عَلَيْهِمْ ، وَإِِنَّمَا هُمْ بَنِيَّ ، فَلَسْتُ بِتَارِكَتِهِمْ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا ، تَقُولُ : كَانَ لِي أَجْرٌ أَوْ لَمْ يَكُنْ ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : نَعَمْ ، " لَكِ فِيهِمْ أَجْرٌ مَا أَنْفَقْتِ عَلَيْهِمْ " .
Sayyida Zainab bint Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates from her mother Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I submitted to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Will I receive any reward regarding the children of Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him), because I spend on them? They are my children and I cannot leave them in this state." Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Will I receive a reward for this or not?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, you will receive a reward for whatever you spend on them."
