Hadith 4234
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ خَلِيلٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الأَوْزَاعِيُّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْتَقَ عَبْدًا لَهُ مِنْ بَعْدَهُ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ مَالٌ غَيْرُهُ ، فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَبَاعَهُ ، وَقَالَ : " أَنْتَ أَحَقُّ بِثَمَنِهِ وَاللَّهُ عَنْهُ غَنِيٌّ " .
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One of the companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made a bequest to free his slave after his death. That companion had no wealth other than that slave, so under the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), they sold that slave. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: You have more right to his price, and Allah is free of need from this.
