Hadith 4177
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ الْكَلاعِيُّ بِحِمْصَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، قَالا حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُكُمْ خَيْرَكُمْ لأَهْلِهِ ، وَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ لأَهْلِي ، وَإِذَا مَاتَ صَاحِبُكُمْ فَدَعُوهُ " ، قَالَ أَبُو حَاتِمٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : قَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَدَعُوهُ " يَعْنِي : لا تَذْكُرُوهُ إِلا بِخَيْرٍ .
Lady Aisha Siddiqa (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best among you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best among you to my wives. And when one of your companions passes away, then leave him (i.e., do not mention his faults)." (Imam Ibn Hibban, may Allah have mercy on him, says): The statement of the Prophet (peace be upon him), "leave him," means: mention him only in terms of goodness.
