Chapter: Marital relations – Clarifying a husband’s obligations to his wife
Hadith 4175
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي قَزْعَةَ ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ رَجُلا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا حَقُّ الْمَرْأَةِ عَلَى الزَّوْجِ ؟ ، قَالَ : " يُطْعِمُهَا إِذَا طَعِمَ ، وَيَكْسُوَهَا إِذَا اكْتَسَى ، ثُمَّ لا يَضْرِبُ الْوَجْهَ ، وَلا يُقَبِّحُ ، وَلا يَهْجُرُ إِلا فِي الْبَيْتِ " .
Hakeem bin Muawiyah narrates from his father: A man asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): What right does a woman have over her husband? The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: When he eats, he should also feed her; when he wears clothes, he should also clothe her; and he should not strike her on the face, nor call her ugly, and if he must avoid her, he should do so only within the house.
