Salim narrates from his father (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both): When Sayyiduna Ghailan bin Salamah Thaqafi, may Allah be pleased with him, accepted Islam, he had ten wives. The Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Keep only four of them." When the era of Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, came, he (Ghailan) divorced his wives and distributed his wealth among his children. When Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, was informed of this, he met him and said: "I think that among the things Satan overhears in secret, he has also heard about your death and has put this idea into your mind. It may be that you will live for a short while yet. By Allah! Either you return to your wives and take back your wealth, or I will declare these women your heirs and will issue an order regarding your grave, and it will be stoned just as the grave of Abu Righal was stoned."
