Rabi’ bin Sabrah al-Juhani narrates from his father: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) permitted us to contract temporary marriage (Nikah Mut’ah) in the year of the conquest of Makkah. I and another man went to a young woman who seemed to be a virgin. We wanted to contract Mut’ah with her. We sat before her. My companion had a cloak on his body, and I also had a cloak on mine. We talked with the woman and discussed the dowry, saying that we would give her cloaks. I was younger than my companion, but his cloak was finer than mine. The woman would look at me once and at his cloak once. Then the woman chose me, so I married her. I stayed with her for three days. Then the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) forbade (Nikah Mut’ah), so I separated from the woman.
