Hadith 4142
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We participated in battle along with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and there were no women with us. We said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Should we not become eunuchs? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade us from doing so. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) permitted us to marry a woman for a specified period in exchange for a garment. Then he (i.e., Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "O you who believe! Do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors."
