Chapter: Prohibited marriages – Clarifying that the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) marriage to Maymunah was while not in ihram
Hadith 4134
أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا فَزَارَةَ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ الأَصَمِّ ، عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَزَوَّجَهَا حَلالا ، وَبَنَى بِهَا حَلالا " ، وَمَاتَتْ بِسَرِفَ ، فَدَفَنَّاهَا فِي الظُّلَّةِ الَّتِي بَنَى بِهَا فِيهَا ، فَنَزَلْتُ فِي قَبْرِهَا أَنَا ، وَابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَلَمَّا وَضَعْنَاهَا فِي اللَّحْدِ ، مَالَ رَأْسُهَا ، وَأَخَذْتُ رِدَائِي ، فَوَضَعْتُهُ تَحْتَ رَأْسِهَا ، فَاجْتَذَبَهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَأَلْقَاهُ ، وَكَانَتْ حَلَقَتْ فِي الْحَجِّ رَأْسَهَا ، فَكَانَ رَأْسُهَا مُحَمَّمًا .
Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) married her, he was not in the state of Ihram, and at the time of her departure (to his house), he was also not in the state of Ihram. Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) also passed away at the place called "Sarif." (The narrator says) We buried her at the same place where her departure (to the Prophet) had taken place. (The narrator says) I and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) descended into her grave. When we placed her in the lahd (side niche of the grave), her head tilted to one side. I took my sheet and placed it under her head. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) pulled that sheet away and set it aside. She had shaved her head during Hajj, so her hair was very short.
